NEW MEMBERS HELP PAGE
If you are newly online you may like some help to get you
started. As you work your way through this page, you will come across new
terms, check out the Glossary
HERE when you're not sure what something means!
USING EMAIL
One of the first things you will want to do is to use
your email program. There is a web site called Learn the Net which will take
you through the process from start to finish. If you are not yet used to
using email, you may find this web site very useful. Click
HERE
to go to the site. The web site will open in a new window so when you have
finished you can close that window and return to this one.
SURFING THE NET
There are many places on the net where you can learn what it is
all about!
The
BBC
Becoming Webwise campaign contains an online tutorial which you can
work through at your own pace.
SELECTED RESOURCES
This page of selected web sites is only a small fraction of what is
available on the net. Recommended sites
include Cindy's List,
probably one of the most respected and reputable genealogy sites on the net!
Others are GENUKI (everything genealogical for the UK & Ireland) and
Rootsweb.
The list
below has been compiled so you can see the website address (the URL) but it
is also a real link to that website.
Click on a link to take you direct to that web page. The link should take you to
the Home page for that particular site. From there you will be able to
browse to many other pages of information with links to further sites.
To return to this page at any time, click the Back button in your Browser.
When you visit a site to which you would like to return, remember to add it
to your Favorites folder if you are using Internet
Explorer or AOL (or bookmark if you use Netscape).
There is an
additional page you can view which includes links to web sites grouped by
category e.g. Searchable Databases etc
