FACTORY,
BETHNAL GREEN, c. 1915
Lorri Busch has kindly contributed a photo of her great grandfather with a group
of workers in a factory in Bethnal Green, taken in 1915-17.
Lorris is not a member but was very keen to
share this photo with members and visitors to the website.
| Lorri writes about her
great-grandfather. He lived in Bethnal Green and also
worked in Stepney so the factory would be around the area. I do know he sold silk
flowers so that may be what the factory produced. It is hard to tell from the photo. |

Back row 3rd from the right, man with
mustache is my great grandfather Eugene Adams. His first profession was selling silk
flowers to shops so that may be what they
produced at this factory. His 2nd profession was a church Verger at St. Stephens
Schoolhouse, Quaker Street Stepney. He died in 1928 so I think that this photo
would have been taken around 1917, give or take 5 years. He lived in Bethnal Green
and as they were very poor the factory would have to be walking distance from St. Stephens
Schoolhouse (which has since been torn down).
As I live in Australia I don't know the
distances between Stepney and Bethnal Green but I assume it is close enough to walk.
I hope this information makes some sense and that someone discovers their ascestor
from it. It was such a clear picture it seems a shame not to pass it around.
I am not a member of the East of London Family
History Society yet. I have only just started searching my family history the past 6
months but as many of my family came from the East End I will look into becoming a member
to help with my research.
