Rob gives some background to the photo:
It was taken by the great-grandfather of a
family friend, we think around 1899. He was a
professional photographer at the time. The family had moved
to the USA by 1900, and never came back. This photo is one of a
collection of some two to three dozen in a family
album, most of which have locations that have
never been identified. Many are just the original glass plate
negs.
The family were originally from Yorkshire,
but between the 1860's and 1900 resided in the
Bushey area of Herts, and formerly in Leytonstone. ( I have
two other photos that could be of the Leytonstone area that may be
also of interest
HERE
).
The lady, whose g-grandfather owned this
image, knows the identity of the man and woman in
the photo ; they are her g-grandfather himself, and
g-grandmother, presumably taken by a friend as it is unusual to see
him in one of his own photos. But the church
itself is a mystery, for they were long married at
the time this was taken, and she can only assume it was
where they once worshipped.
I've searched my sites and pages of London
churches, and particularly in the close by Essex
area, Leyton, Stratford, Wanstead, etc, with no success so
far. I feel this is a London church, and of the 1800's, but could
just as easily be way off. It could even be a
church that has been destroyed or demolished.
Any ideas should be
