QPM1: Is the
following town: (name of town) within your membership area, I am thinking of joining
EoLFHS?
APM1: The organisers of the Society have very
carefully researched and listed the towns within the
society's boundaries

QPM2: I've
carefully checked the list of towns within the East of London FHS and I can't find my town
name of interest. Which FHS might it be in?
APM2: Go to the
EoLFHS overview map. This will provide you an overview of the EoLFHS's
geography and the names of
nearby FHSs.
Also
check the
EoLFHS Map for
the UK Gazetteer and the UK Counties Map and other recent hyperlinks. Between the two, you
should be able to pinpoint the correct county. Knowing the county will help you locate the
correct FHS, although FHSs don't necessarily follow county boundaries.
Check the listing of all
FFHSs. This will bring you to either the
web site or
mailing address of the society you think you want.
If you are still not sure, you might try to follow
our EoLFHS Help Page. A few volunteers listed specialise
in answering questions on geography so they may be able to help. Please
remember they are volunteers and all may not be familiar with the boundaries
of other FHSs.

QPM3: I sent in
a membership application ages ago, can you let me know if you received it?
APM3: The EoLFHS is a volunteer based
society. There are no central offices, no main telephone, no fax numbers, and no internet
addresses. There are over 3000 members from all over the world. Most of the work of
organising, publication, information dissemination is done by a small set of members in
the UK. Round-trip mailing times can sometimes (but not always) be lengthy (one to two
months), especially outside the UK. Some
data is kept on recent
round-trip times from various countries along with a guide as to who to contact if it has
been a very long time. If your application still seems long overdue, you may wish to
proceed to Questions about your current membership or CA mailing
status.

QM1: I've
received my membership packet and received my member number. Why am I not listed in the
on-line member listing? I did provide my e-mail address on the application form.
AM1: The
membership secretary that you applied to for application or renewal needs to process over 3000 paper
mail applications annually. The on-line
members list is maintained by the webmaster.
If you want
to be in the on-line listing, you will need to take a few minutes and fill out the on-line
forms. Members can choose to be in the on-line listing in one of two ways:
- by filling out the
On-Line Member's
submittal form
- by filling out the
On-Line Surnames
submittal form
If you plan on submitting surnames to the on-line listing,
then you can skip the on-line member's form.

QM2: I have
submitted my surnames and e-mail address on the form to Mrs Eileen Pullin for the Surname
Index. Why are my surnames not listed in the on-line list. I have been watching for
several months.
QM2: The answer to this question is similar to
the one above and that
is that the two databases are separate listings. The listing maintained by Mrs. Pullin
contains an estimated 30,000 surnames submitted by paper mail input from current
membership. The latest fiche was released to members in October 2000. This list of
5,000+ names has been included on the website and can be viewed on the members fiche interests
(Removed Feb 2003)..
The on-line surname listing is much
smaller (over 4,000 entries) and only contains entries
from about a third of members who are
on-line and who wish to have their surnames listed. If a member wishes to list their
surnames on-line, then they need to fill out the
on-line surnames
form

QM3: I have
changed my postal mailing address can I submit the change on-line.
AM3: The membership secretary is not on line.
Therefore all mailing address changes need to be paper mailed to the
Membership Secretary. It's probably best to photocopy your copy of
the form you sent her and resend showing your new address. The addresses are listed
on the Contact Information page

QM4: I have
changed my e-mail address. Who do I notify?
