Update for Barking Branch:
Since meeting at the Salvation Army Hall on a Saturday afternoon the branch
now has a computer with various discs for members use. This was bought from
the proceeds of a monthly raffle with prizes of books. Any book won can be
exchanged on the bookstall for an item of the same price or can be used as
part payment against a more expensive item.
Plus we have an extensive library of books
and videos that can be borrowed.
Each month we try to have a guest society
which is of interest and use to members, for example, Barking
Historical,Newham Historical, Eastside Community Heritage , etc.
We have display boards full of local interest
articles, pictures that vary from month to month.
There is an excellent kitchen with
tea, coffee, home made cakes, etc. at very
reasonable prices.
The bookstall has 6 tables which allows
Richard to bring a very comprehensive selection of books, fiche and C. D's.
We have the added bonus of not having to rush
to be out at a fixed time, unlike when we met in the library, so use can be
made of all the above facilities after the talk as well as before.
Doors open at 1p.m.Talks start at 2 p.m.
Please come along and give us a try. I'm sure
you will be pleasantly surprised.
