OUR AREA OF INTEREST The Society’s geographic area of interest is that part of Greater London, north of the Thames, east of the old City of London gates of Aldgate and Bishopsgate, and through the modern day London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham, Barking & Dagenham and Redbridge to the edge of Metropolitan Essex at Havering. The Society promotes and encourages the study of family history in the area and holds regular Branch Meetings at four locations within our area of interest. Visitors are always most welcome, so please, visit our Branch page for details about your nearest branch. At these meetings talks are given by guest speakers and there are various resources available; from bookstalls and libraries to fiche readers and computers and of course our most valuable resource, our members, some of whom have an interest in specific aspects of life in the east of London area. Whether you are new to studying family history or a seasoned genealogist, we hope you will find something of interest to you.
